Background
Our team's in-depth research, including discussions with prospective and current customers, revealed that remote teams can easily get stuck in text chat and scheduled meetings. Teams were looking for an integrated way to have frequent and more spontaneous face-to-face conversations.
Seamless integration
Users were lacking visibility around their team's availability and schedule. I collaborated with the founders to create an integrated solution that seamlessly blends into users' desktops. The Remotion Dock allows them to feel connected to their teammates through features like daily selfies, status updates, availability modes, and the ability to quickly jump into a call. Team members can see who’s available, in a call, focusing, or in a meeting (automatically pulled from apps like Google Calendar).

Feedback loop
User testing and feedback was a constant part of our iterative process. A regular cadence of calls with current users as well as a constant flow of in-app and Slack feedback allowed us to fine-tune the product in real time. We were able to test new concepts more quickly with these users, and add in features like Google Calendar and Slack integrations, refined availability modes, and text statuses.

Outcome
With an increase in visibility to their teammates' statuses, and a clear indication of availability, users were better able to spontaneously initiate quick face-to-face conversations, increasing collaboration and building more connected teams. This led to an increased number of engaged users, as well as a sustained customer base.
